Our client is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join their team. As an Environmental Specialist, you will be part of the Environmental team supporting mill-wide environmental compliance, radiation program coordination, and environmental management system execution. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, the ability to work with urgency and attention to detail, and the drive to learn and apply environmental regulations to real-world operations.

Job Title: Environmental Specialist

Location: Beaumont, Texas

Pay Range: $65,000 - $85,000

What's the Job?

  • Coordinate the implementation and maintenance of the Environmental Management System (EMS) and support environmental conformance rating (ECR) and KPI monitoring programs.
  • Stay current on federal, state, and local environmental regulations and provide guidance to mill management to support ongoing compliance, including radiation procedures.
  • Collect, oversee, and manage environmental samples and data for permits and reporting (including annual Tier II, TRI, hazardous waste, Superfund, Title V, NPDES, radiation protection, and other required environmental reporting).
  • Coordinate permitting and compliance activities for air emissions sources, landfills, wastewater discharges, solid waste management, and stormwater runoff, including coordination with applicable contractor support.
  • Coordinate and direct the radiation control program for onsite operations, including monitoring, calibrating, testing radiation detection devices, responding to alarms, and supporting procedures for potential radioactive melt scenarios.

What's Needed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations and laws, with the ability to keep up to date and apply requirements to daily operations.
  • Basic skills with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, plus willingness to learn new company environmental monitoring and reporting software and hardware.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment, communicate clearly verbally and in writing, and collaborate with people across different levels of plant operations and government agencies.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and work outside all day in all forms of weather; must be able to pass drug, driving, and background screening.
